Junior Programs Overview
The Seattle Yacht Club Juniors enjoy an active calendar of social and sailing events, both on and off the water.
The Juniors always welcome new members! Junior-class membership starts at age 10 and runs up to age 21, when members reach Active Intermediate status. If you’d like to learn more about joining SYC’s Junior program, please contact the SYC Membership Director.
Over the course the year, the Junior Officers and the social team pick from a variety of activities including: sporting-related events, local fields trips, community involvement and educational undertakings. Recent popular events include the Blake Island camping trip, pumpkin carving for Halloween, ski trip in the winter, and enjoying Tuesday night sailing during the summer. The goal is to have one gathering per month available to the Juniors so that they can have fun with other members their own age doing things they like to do. The monthly meetings are the first Thursday of every month (except July and August which fall on a designated Tuesday) with dinner in the Junior Room starting at 6:00pm, and the Meeting following at 7:00. New Junior members are always welcome! The officers go over upcoming activities and get feedback from the larger group on what kinds of activities the members are interested in pursuing.
On the water, the Junior Race Team and Sumer Sailing School offer our younger members one of the truly outstanding youth sailing programs in the country. More information can be found on the Junior Race Team Page.
Across the Club, Juniors are important to the success of such activities as the SeaFair Holiday Cruise, Children’s Christmas Party, Children’s Santa Brunch, Opening Day and the Children's Easter Brunch. Involvement in these events not only encourages interaction with the wider Club community, but the Juniors can also earn community service credit for their hours of volunteering. They help plan and facilitate these happenings which generations at the club and in our local community have enjoyed throughout the years.
