Commodore's Letter

Dear SYC Member:

I hope Santa Claus found each and every one of you and brought you that special something that you were looking for. We had a great Christmas in the mountains and yours truly got in some good skiing. Well, maybe it wasn’t so good, but I had a great time.

At last week’s board meeting, Bruce Campbell gave a preliminary report on the work that is being done to acquire the use of a small Keelboat fleet for SYC. Many other yacht clubs around the world have small Keelboat programs which have been credited with energizing and revitalizing their active intermediate programs. We hope to have a fairly complete plan available to share with you at the All Hands meeting on January 22.

In case it slipped your mind, in the Christmas rush, there is still time to contribute to this year’s Employee Appreciation Fund. While there is a service charge added to our food and drink chits, there are many of the staff around the Club who do not participate in the service charges but still deserve our appreciation.

While we do not want to discourage any of you from bringing large groups to the Marine Room, it would be a big help if you could call ahead and let us know so we can beef up the staff in both the Marine Room and the kitchen. This would help improve the service for both your group and the rest of the members.

Yesterday we said our formal goodbyes to Marty Crowder in a memorial service that was awesome. Marty and Diane’s three daughters, Christy, Lisa, and Amy, each reflected upon the importance of faith, family, and friends in their dad’s life. These three young ladies are a great credit to Marty and Diane.

Thanks to Chaplain Meg Lewis who led the memorial. And thanks also to the hundreds of people who came from around the region to pay their last respects to Marty.

Happy New Year one and all.

Jack Sullivan, Commodore

Women's Holiday Luncheon Review

December 19

A grand group of ladies, all decked out in holiday attire, enjoyed delicious punch served by our Commodores and a scrumptious lunch.  Thanks to our Santa, Reid Imas and his helpers Len Rothe and Marlee. The pictures taken with Santa were available after the Dickens' carolers' entertaining program.

Our most generous ladies donated three huge boxes of food and $583 to Northwest Harvest!
