Commodore's Letter
Dear SYC Member:
Yea Team! Over this past weekend, 30 of your fellow members journeyed to the Tacoma Yacht Club to participate in the annual Daffodil Boat Parade. In spite of less than warm weather, we had a great time and I am so proud to say we were awarded First Prize for Best Decorated Boat following the theme. The decorated vessel was this year’s SYC Flagship, Flying Eagle, skippered by Chris Warner and crewed by a gaggle of clowns. Daffodils were attached from the top of both the mainmast and mizzen-mast, right down to the deck. Thanks to the daring-do of our high wire team, Roger Werner and Bob McConnell.
Fred and Karen Roed chaired the event and they did a super job. Their Roed Runner was lead boat in the SYC Contingent with Officers and Admirals formally saluting the Commodores of TYC.
Both as this year’s Commodore and the regular Captain of Flying Eagle, my most sincere thanks to:

Think about SYC for your party needs!
This is your Club. We need your feedback. Comment Cards are available with every check presented. Also Comment Cards are available from any server. Just Ask! We want your comments. Believe me, they are read and accommodated as much as possible.

QCYC/SYC Eagle Harbor Navigation Contest
(Predicted Log Race)
The co-hosted IPBA event began Friday night with a burger bash by Chief Burgermaster and Fleet Captain, Tyler Ellison. The “use all your electronics” race went off Saturday with sunny skies and calm winds. Only a few Contestants had to content with ferry collision courses (the ferries won). SYC fielded a four boat team and won the Team Trophy from Queen City Yacht Club. Kim Lorenz finished 1st Overall.

US Coast Guard Press Release
The US Coast Guard issued a press release reminding mariners that older model Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacons (EPIRBs) that broadcast on 121.5 MHz or 243 MHz will not be monitored by satellite as of February 1, 2009. Effective that date, the satellites
will only monitor for radio beacons broadcasting on 406 MHz. Some of the newer EPIRBs are equipped with embedded GPS, which will automatically signal the location of the distress. (4/18/08).

The USCG Navigation Center Team

LOG BOOM
The log boom is a cooperative effort between the Seattle Yacht Club, the University of Washington and several generous sponsors. Even so, total expenses for the log boom last year exceeded $40,000 and it is a battle to keep it funded.
So, once again, the University will have students who will be soliciting donations from those of you who tie up on the log boom. The suggested amount is $10 per foot of beam of your boat. If you’d like to reserve a space, all you need to do is register in advance. Go to www.gohuskies.com or call (206) 543-4895.
