The Marine Traffic, Environmental, and Safety Committee is holding a full day of classroom and in-the-water safety training for club members and their families. This year, the training will be provided by the professional training instructors of the Washington Sea Grant Program. Sessions include: Preparing for an Emergency; Strategies for Dealing with Cold Water Immersion; Signalling for Assistance; Abandoning Ship; Retrieving a Man Overboard; Fueling Safety; Fire Safety. The outdoor sessions (weather permitting) will feature drills on Testing and Maintaining PFDs; Using a Survival Suit; Using a Life Raft; Practicing Hull Breaches with a simulator; Practicing Flooding Control with a motor pump; Using Flares; Practice Use of Fire Extinguishers. The latter two items are pending approval by the USCG and the Seattle Fire Department.
