The Seattle Yacht Club Juniors enjoy an active calendar of social and sailing events, both on and off the water.
Long running traditions such as the Junior decorated boat for Opening Day are opportunities for Junior Members to work together on a project in a fun atmosphere representing the Seattle Yacht Club. New events, such as dinner before the monthly meetings, afternoons and movie nights at Elliot Bay Outstation bring folks together for the casual fun of a shared meal. The group has a great time planning and creating memorable moments for Juniors throughout the year.
Across the Club, Juniors are important to the success of such activities as the Special People’s Cruise, Children’s Christmas Party, Children’s Santa Brunch, Opening Day and the Children's Easter Brunch. Involvement in these events not only encourages interaction with the wider club, but the Juniors can also earn community service credit for their hours of volunteering. They help plan and facilitate these happenings which generations at the club and in our local community have enjoyed throughout the years.
Over the course the year, the Junior Officer team, pick from a variety of activities including: sporting-related events, local fields trips, community involvement and educational undertakings. The goal is to have one gathering per month available to the Juniors so that they can interact in a more intimate setting with other members their own age. The monthly meetings are the first Thursday of every month (except July and August which fall on a designated Tuesday) with dinner in the Junior Room starting at 6:00 and the Meeting following at 7:00. The officers go over upcoming activities and get feedback from the larger group on what kinds of things that the members are interested in persuing.
On the water, the Junior Race Team and Sumer Sailing School offer our younger members one of the truly outstanding youth sailing programs in the country. More information can be found on the Junior Race Team Page.
The Juniors always welcome new members. Junior-class membership starts at age 10 and runs up to age 21, when members reach Active Intermediate status. If you’d like to learn more about SYC’s Junior program, please contact the SYC Membership Director.
