US SAILING, the national governing body for the sport, and a prime sponsor, launched a speaker series to help sailors keep up with sailing rules and techniques. The grassroots, educational series delivers high quality seminars to sailors nationwide and is hosted by select sailing organizations and yacht clubs. Seattle Yacht Club was selected as one of the host organizations for the region and the event was open to all comers.
The US Sailing Speaker Series features as many as ten events a year on a number of subjects from sail racing rules to Olympic competitor sailing tips.
Please join us for an evening with Dave Perry on Friday, March 3. Dave is best known for his writing and understanding of the Rules of Racing. In a departure from the usual talk about the tactical application of those rules, Dave will talk about building a winning team on your boat. Dave has won the Congressional Cup twice - a testament to his team building skills. He is also a very entertaining guy who will give you some good insight as to why that guy on the foredeck only responds with gestures when you change from bear away to jibe set two boat lengths from the mark.
Doors open at 7:00 p.m., Dave’s talk starts at 7:30 p.m. and the Mount Gay Rum cocktail hour starts following the talk. Admission is $15.00 at the door, and it gets you Dave’s wisdom, a complimentary cocktail, hors d’oeuvres and a chance at door prizes courtesy of Mount Gay Rum, Sperry and Sunsail, the evening’s sponsors. Dave will also have his books for sail. So we look forward to seeing you there for a great time.
