A slow start and a fast finish characterized this year's 60th running of the Swiftsure as 200 yachts worked their way through light air at first, then conditions greatly improved within a couple of hours.

A slow start and a fast finish characterized this year's 60th running of the Swiftsure as 200 yachts worked their way through light air at first, then conditions greatly improved within a couple of hours.

Seattle Yacht Club's Rob Fleming and crew aboard "Coruba" - a Nelson/Merrik 70 - won the 2003 Swiftsure Lightship Classic Divsion race on Memorial Day weekend and two other SYC boats rounded out the class with top slot finishes.

Revised final results accounted for a rating correction on one boat that changed the result for Division A in the Swiftsure Lightship Class - the traditional long course of the regatta. That moved Dick Robbins' custom Perry 65 "Icon" up into second place. Marda Phelps finished in fourth place with her Santa Cruz 52 "Marda Gras".

Reports say that Nick Cooper, an 18-year Swiftsure veteran, felt that the crew of Icon found this year's race to be excellent. "We were hoping for a second-place finish", said Cooper, figuring that they might be beat by Coruba on corrected time."
