Inside the SYC Official Challenge - AC Information for Members

This column will provide you with information to help you stay up-to-date on SYC's America's Cup challenge syndicate and events leading up to the America's Cup. SYC America's Cup Reception

The OneWorld Challenge crew has left New Zealand and is now in Seattle for a short period training. This presents Seattle Yacht Club members with an exciting opportunity to get to know the OneWorld Challenge syndicate team better at an America's Cup Reception at SYC. During the event, syndicate leadership and crew will be introduced so share their view of what's ahead as they prepare to take the SYC burgee into competition.

This event is for members only and reservations are required.  The date of the event To Be Announced.

America's Cup Update

Nine yacht clubs from seven different countries submitted challenges accompanied by their entry fee to Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron in time for the March 1, 2001 deadline. There is a second and final deadline of March 1, 2002, at double the initial entry fee.

The challengers will race for the Louis Vuitton Cup from late next year
until early 2003. The winner will compete in the 31st America's Cup against defender Team New Zealand for the America's Cup in a best-of-nine series starting on February 15, 2003.

Confirmed entries for challenger series: Union Nationale pour la Dourse au Large (Le Defi) France, Dusseldorf Yacht Club (Illbruck Challenge) Germany, Yacht Club Punta Ala (Prada syndicate) Italy, Reale Yacht Club Canottieri Savoia (syndicate to be advised) Italy, Societe Nautique de Geneve (Swiss Challenge) Switzerland, Gamla Stans Yacht Sallskap (Victory Challenge) Sweden, Royal Ocean Racing Club Britannia (GBR Challenge) United Kingdom, Seattle Yacht Club (OneWorld Challenge) United States, and New York Yacht Club (Stars and Stripes) United States.
