This is a Sail and Power event. Anchorages selected will be weather dependent and large enough to accommodate all boats safely. You should be prepared to anchor in 10 fathoms of water. We will raft as much as we can.
The Sunshine Coast Cruise starts after the Commodore's Cruise at Ovens Island and ends on the doorstep to Desolation Sound at the SYC outstation on Cortes Island. Weather permitting, we will visit places around the Straits of Georgia not usually seen by SYC'ers. They include Lasqueti Island, Hornby Island, Comox, and Savary Island. If you have guests arriving or departing, locations with scheduled commercial air service are Nanaimo and Comox. Cruise instructions will be presented after the pancake breakfast on the 28th.
The actual cruising schedule is weather dependent. The cruise starts on July 29th and proceeds more or less as follows:
- Day One, 7/29: Depart Ovens Island for Nanaimo on Sunday July 29th and catch the slack water at Dodd Narrows at about 10:15 a.m. Arrive Nanaimo and anchor, Green Box aboard PANTHER
- Day Two, 7/30: Depart Nanaimo for Lasqueti, anchor at False Bay or the NE side of the Island at Boho Bay. Explore Lasqueti. Green Box.
- Days Three and Four, 7/31-8/1: Depart Lasqueti for Tribune Bay on Hornby Island. Anchor, swim, hit the white sand beach a mile wide, great hiking and exploring. Green Boxes.

- Day Six, 8/3: Depart Comox for the north side of Savary Island weather permitting. Green Box.
- Day Seven, 8/4: Depart Savary for the Cortes Outstation, last Green Box.
Fall Equinox Regatta:  September 22 - 23
The SYC Fall Equinox Regatta, previously organized by Bill Heylman, known as the Port Ludlow Regatta and more recently the Gig Harbor Regatta, features Saturday racing from Shilshole to a nearby harbor, an overnight anchor/raft, group activities, and racing back to Shilshole on Sunday. A reverse start, slower boats first, helps all boats arrive at our designation with plenty of time to enjoy the Saturday party and potluck. Racing, cruising, and short-handed boats are encouraged to participate. The Fall Equinox Regatta is open to boats from all yacht clubs. Check the 2007 Race Information and Schedule page for more information as the event approaches.
