PCYA Yacht Person of the Year

The Charles A. Langlais Trophy has been awarded by the Pacific Coast Yachting Association since 1926. The winners of the trophy are chosen for exceptional, outstanding, and meritorious service to the sport of yachting, not for successful competition but including such success as exceptional seamanship, sportsmanship or any achievement which shall protect or promote the sport of yachting in its broadest configuration. The trophy consists of a sterling silver loving cup mounted on a teak base bearing plaques for the names of the several recipients. The trophy may be awarded no more often than once in any calendar year, and there have been 25 previous recipients.

The Pacific Coast Yachting Association is pleased to announce that the Langlais Trophy is award this year to William “Bill” Bradshaw of the Seattle Yacht Club. Bill has been a member of the Seattle Yacht Club since 1937, and in the eyes of the selection committee has been an outstanding contributor to yachting, both in the northwest and beyond.

Marda Phelps, Commodore of the Pacific Coast Yachting Association, accepted the trophy on behalf of Mr. Bradshaw at the PCYA Annual Meeting in Coronado CA on January 11th, 2003. Commodore Phelps also is a member of the Seattle Yacht Club, and will present the trophy to the recipient at a ceremony in Seattle on Thursday, April 24, 2003.
