2006 Garlic Festival Report

The crowd was small but thoroughly aromatic at this year's Garlic Festival at Port Madison, March 13. Category winners included:

  • Appetizer: Angela and Steve Scalzo for Barbequed Artichokes
  • Salad: Dave and Ann Ferguson for Mediterranean Salad
  • Side Dish: Pat Crockett and Keith Johnson for Roasted Eggplant and Potato Casserole
  • Main Dish: Greg Guyman and Nese Aiumu for Fennel and Garlic Roasted Salmon
  • Dessert: and Greg and Nese again for Garlic Truffles in both dark chocolate and coffee flavors

Irene Dougherty was this year's winner of the "Order of the Stinking Rose Trophy" not only for her many years as a loyal participant in the festival, but for being a real team player and helping out fellow competitors Jim and Virgie Huehnergarth with some cream cheese so they could compete with a delicious Garlic Pate against her Garlic Marinated Goat Cheese in the appetizer category. Karen Kenyon hosted the event with invaluable support from Bonnie Winterhouse and Tom Rausch. Smell you next year!
