Opening Day Commercial Entries

Traditionally, the Seattle Yacht Club has not allowed commercial advertising of any sort in the parade. In our effort to increase the number and quality of decorated boats, SYC has created a "Decorated Commerce Division" within the parade. Application to this division will be open to any vessel sponsored by a business, community group or non-profit organization, subject to the Supplemental Policy Guidelines For Seattle Yacht Club Opening Day, which may be download below.
This yearÂ’s theme is: 2002 Safari at Sea.
Applicants may decorate to the general theme, as long as the Guidelines are followed.
In adding the Decorated Commerce Division, the Seattle Yacht Club looked to the dignity and good taste exemplified by the commercial entries in the Tournament of Roses Parade in Pasadena. It was with this model in mind that this new division was created, and similar standards of good taste will be considered when evaluating applicants.
In addition to the guidelines, applicants for this division are requested to submit a sketch of their proposed decorated boat to the Opening Day Committee of Seattle Yacht Club for review and acceptance into the division. Sketches must be submitted no later than April 1st. If accepted, the decorated boat must substantially conform to the sketch at the time of the parade. As has always been the case, the Parade Director, who is stationed at the west end of the cut on parade day, may prohibit any vessel from the parade if, in his judgment, that vessel does not conform to the parade rules and guidelines.
