SUBJECT: Pick A Pound to Save the Sound
Seattle Yacht Club is kicking off its Puget Sound shoreline cleanup project starting Opening Day 2008. Our goal is to have our members and their families volunteer to collect beach trash when they are on shore while cruising in Puget Sound. If 250 families were to collect 25 pounds of beach trash on one (1) single visit to the beach this boating season, we could
clean up at least 2% of the Puget Sound shoreline. Our challenge is to the Puget Sound boating community to join us in this project. We can make a difference. Help us succeed!
There is a major effort underway to address the current environmental impacts on Puget Sound. In most cases the mitigation efforts involve major engineering based projects such as control of storm water runoff and treatment of agricultural waste. There are several ways individual actions can reduce impacts in a meaningful way. Beach trash is not only ugly but can
have a negative impact on near shore ecosystems. This is one area where personal action makes sense. Please join us in this challenge to PICK A POUND TO SAVE THE SOUND.
