The holiday season is a special time at Seattle Yacht Club. The clubhouse is decorated with all of the traditions of the membership, the staff are even more friendlier, and the faces of our members and their loved ones positively glow in the candlelight.

Come and join your fellow members in celebrating this special time of the year. Check out the many activities, dinners, and events scheduled during the months. Come back to these pages frequently as details change, new events are added, and to check on the status of your reservations.

15th ~ Gingerbread Houseboat Ropeyarn

Visit the Portage Bay Room for demonstrations in working with gingerbread. You will get helpful tips and ideas on how to build your Gingerbread Houseboat for our contest.  Contest kits will be available.

22nd~ Thanksgiving Dinner

Let us cook for you so you have time to enjoy your family and friends. No matter what your family traditionally serves forThanksgiving, we will have it on our buffet table.  Dinner service from 2:00pm to 6:00pm.  Please phone the Front Desk to RSVP.

23th~ Christmas Ships in Portage Bay

The beautiful lighted ships will be passing right in front of the clubhouse on Portage Bay between Seattle Yacht Club and Queen City Yacht Club.  Come enjoy the lights and sounds with our perfect viewing from the Marine Room windows or deck.  Cookies and hot chocolate will be available for purchase Take them down to the lawn or docks to watch the floating show. The choir will be singing 8:30 to 8:50pm.

27thTree Lighting Party

Come join us as we throw the switch to light the Christmas tree in the Lobby of the Club House.  Hosted cookies, hot chocolate and hot apple cider will greet you.  Gingerbread Houseboats will be on display and you can cast your vote for your favorite. Music will fill the air!


27thCandlelight Buffet

This marks the first of five nights of wonderful food, music, and friendship. The Dickens Carolers stroll through the dining rooms and fill the room with beautiful music.  You will even be able to request your favorite.  The Club is always full of Holiday Spirit!



1st ~ Commodore’s Ball

Join us in honoring Commodore Rob and Len Rothe. This black tie event is always a highlight of the year.  Reservations open October 31st at 8:00am.


2ndSpecial People’s Cruise

What a truly special day.  Member boats join flotillas from other local yacht clubs and treat their guests, Washington State Special People, to a cruise on Lake Washington. Santa greets the guests with cheers and waves during the cruise. He even talks to them over the VHF radio and asks them what they want for Christmas. Many of our guests look forward to this day all year long and come from as far as Spokane. After the Cruise all the volunteers are invited to a dinner at the Club. 

4th~ Candlelight Buffet

8th~ Children’s Christmas Party

This is a wonderful multi-generational event at the Club.  It is the ultimate child's Christmas -- Santa, gifts, lights, sounds and yummy food.

All this with parents and grandparents looking on.

This event is always sold out so make your reservations early, they open November 7th.


 11th~ Candlelight Buffet


13th~ Power/Sail Party and Gift Exchange

Oh my, you never know what you are going home with after this fun gift exchange! Power boaters and Sail boaters band together for a great evening of fun, friendship and a lot of laughter.



18th~ Candlelight Buffet


19th~ Women’s Group Luncheon

The Luncheon starts out upstairs in the Marine Room with the three Commodores serving punch!  Santa will be there to take your Christmas list and have your photo taken with him. 

After the festivities upstairs we go down stairs to a wonderful lunch ending with the traditional Bouche de Noel. The Bottom Line Duo will be there to entertain us. Always a wonderful way to share the Holidays with Girlfriends!  This is a great luncheon, so plan to bring friends and family as guests.


20th~ Men’s Lunch

Come and enjoy the fellowship with other men. Compare notes on what you got your wife for Christmas!  Partake in the raffle of donated boating gifts, along with a wonderful lunch!



20th~ Tom & Jerry Ropeyarn

Holiday Spirits are in order for this Ropeyarn, the last one before Christmas! Winners of the Gingerbread Houseboat Contest will be awarded and the participants will be able to take home their masterpieces!


 23rd~ Candlelight Buffet


23rd~ Christmas Ships in Portage Bay

The last Parade of the season ends in Portage Bay at 8:45 to 9:05.  What a wonderful way to see the lights and sounds of the Holidays.  Cookies and hot chocolate will be available at the Club so you can take a snack out to the lawn and watch the ships.

 31st~ New Years Party

Gingerbread Houseboat Contest

Did someone say family time? Join in the fun and enter our Gingerbread Houseboat Contest. 

The challenge is to make a gingerbread house with a nautical theme. We will display the  Houseboats at the Club during the Holidays. Our members and guests will be able to view them  and vote for their favorite. Prizes will be given at the Tom and Jerry Ropeyarn on December  20th.

We have kits for you with the rules and the base to build your creation on. Let your  imagine run wild – come to the Ropeyarn on November 15 and learn techniques, great time to ask questions.

All entries must be delivered to the Club by 3:00pm Monday, November 26th so they can be numbered and displayed for the Tree Lighting Party on November 27th. What a great activity to do while enjoying your leftover turkey sandwiches.
