Sailing Director- Brian Ledbetter

Brian Ledbetter is currently the Sailing Director at Seattle Yacht Club, having joined the SYC staff in 2004. His major areas of responsibility include the Sailboat Racing Program, Junior Sailing Program and the SYC Club Boats. Brian is a two-time Olympian and Silver Medalist, having competed in the 1988 and 1992 Olympics. In addition to Olympic Silver Medal in the Finn Class, Brian has a Goodwill Games Gold Medal and multiple National Championships to his credit. Brian is originally from San Diego and an alumnus of the San Diego Yacht Club junior racing team. He attended the United States Naval Academy, graduating in 1985. While at Navy, he was a three-time College Sailing All-American and two-time National Champion. He also competed in the 2003 America's Cup Trials in New Zealand and as Sailing Team Operations Manager with the OneWorld Team. Seattle has been home for Brian and his family since 1992.

Race Team Coach- Cameron Hoard

Cameron grew up racing Lasers, Lightnings, and his family’s Ranger 26 in Upstate New York and all over the Atlantic Coast. After a successful junior sailing career, Cameron pursued his interest in music at Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA. He spent his college summers and weekends coaching, racing, and managing races on Boston Harbor for The Courageous Sailing Center.

After graduating college in 2005, he moved out to the San Francisco Bay Area to coach at The San Francisco Yacht Club. Initially hired as the First Year Race Team Coach, Cameron worked into the position of Head Sailing and High School Race Team Coach. As Head Coach, he oversaw the staff of sailing instructors and handled the enrollment and structure of the SFYC summer season program and year-round high school racing program. The high school race teams combined five high schools, about 35 sailors, into a collaborative practice environment and rigorous regatta schedule.

Cameron traveled extensively with both the high school and summer race teams to various regattas throughout California.  Every season the high school teams qualified for PCISA Gold Pacific Coast Championships, as well as many sailors being accepted into the CISA advanced racing clinic.  At SFYC Cameron also coached the Opti Race Team, taught Adult Sailing and Learn to Sail courses in Optis, Lasers, Keelboats and FJs.

Following his time at SFYC, Cameron went to work for Doyle Sailmakers San Francisco, where he built one design, cruising, and custom racing sails for a variety of boats. While working at Doyle, he raced on many boats, often trimming sails he had built.

In addition, Cameron coached John Pearce to a 5th place standing at the Laser Olympic trials of 2008 and also taught sailing at San Francisco State University.

Aside from sailing, Cameron likes to write and produce music, hike, camp, snowboard, and spend time with friends and family. He’s excited to be a part of Seattle Yacht Club and is looking forward to lots of fun and hard work on the water!

In 2004, she became a certified US Sailing Instructor and has taught at SYC since then. In addition to being the Head Instructor of the Summer Sailing School since 2008, she has headed the Opti Green Fleet program at SYC, teaching novice Opti sailors how to race. Sydney graduated from Western Washington University in 2009, where she also participated in the Sailing Team racing FJ's throughout the West Coast. Sydney also spent two years teaching English in Spain, and was also able to sail 420’s and crew on a Beneteau 40.7 while living in Santander.
