2013-2014 Re-Cap

2013-2014 was another busy social year for the Juniors. They started off the year with an afternoon of BINGO at the Elliott Bay Station in late September.  In October, the second annual Pumpkin Carving, which included bobbing for apples and a donut eating contest took place under the cover of the small boat area! Once again, the skiers in the group came together for another annual pilgrimage to see this year's Warren Miller Movie.

Over the holidays, the officers attended the Commodore’s Ball.  The rest of the group hosted guests at the Special People’s Cruise and assisted the Entertainment Committee at the Children’s Christmas Party.

In January, there was a movie night at Elliott Bay Station screening Overboard.   Since the Ward Room was still closed in February, the Junior Room was the site for a “Pink Elephant” Valentine’s Party.  The gift exchange yielded some creative and downright weird wrapped items.  After three delays, a group of Juniors used their Christmas card coupon to have a “Dress-up” dinner in the Ward Room.

As Spring sprang, Laser Tag returned to the old Mohai grounds near Foster Island.  It was agreed that Montlake Park is a better venue. In April, there were a couple of work parties for Opening Day and a Scavenger Hunt that utilized the camera capabilities of kid’s cell phones.  The Junior Volunteers for the Children’s Easter Party had a great time.  The Carey family hosted 20 Juniors aboard Carey’d Away for Opening Day. A final event for the Spring was another bike and BBQ at Elliot Bay.  The weather cooperated and it was a great ride to the Olympic Sculpture Park.

The summer saw the return of the Blake Island Camping Trip.  Cooler weather kept the crowds at bay over a mid-July weekend.  There were four families who provided support from anchor or mooring bouys off the beach.  Despite the aggressive raccoons who stole an entire package of 32 hotdog buns, it was a fantastic weekend.  Over the summer months, there were two of the Tuesday Sailing Nights that were chosen as Junior meet-ups full of sailing, firsbee and catching up.
