Reciprocity Guidelines
Seattle Yacht Club is pleased to welcome members of approved reciprocal clubs to visit and enjoy the facilities of the SYC Portage Bay mainstation. If you do not see your club on the list of approved clubs, we encourage you to contact SYC regarding reciprocity.
SYC was established in 1892 and has grown to exceed approximately 3000 members. Extremely active junior, cruising and racing programs are maintained for both power and sail. The 8500 square foot clubhouse was built in 1920 and is conducive to warm and friendly social gatherings. The clubs formal dining room is reputed to be one of the best in the Seattle area.
Privileges
Guest and Moorage reciprocal privileges include use of SYC's dining and bar facilities, counter gift sales and guest moorage. Privileges are limited to use of Portage Bay mainstation only, outstations and the Elliott Bay station are not available.
Clubhouse Location
SYCs mainstation is located in Seattle at 1807 East Hamlin Street, 1/4 mile southwest of the Montlake Bridge on the southeast side of Portage Bay (fresh water bay connecting Lake Union with Lake Washington), just north of the Highway 520 bridge crossing Lake Washington. Parking is on a space availability basis. Latitude/Longitude is 47°38.73 N 122°18.43 W. Arrival from Puget Sound requires passing from saltwater to fresh water via locks and under several bridges.
Clubhouse Hours
The club is open Monday 8:30 a.m. 3 p.m., Tuesday Saturday 8:30 a.m. 10 p.m., Sunday 10 a.m. 10 p.m. Since the club is closed for some holidays and not available to reciprocal guests during special events, it is suggested you call prior to your arrival to confirm availability.
Documentation Required for Admittance
Reciprocal guests must present either their current club membership card or a letter of introduction from their club.
Check-In Procedures
Upon arrival, please check-in at the front desk located on the 2nd floor of the main clubhouse. If you arrive by boat after regular business hours, you may check-in the following morning. A copy of your Visa or Master Card will be made and a guest pass issued. Please present your guest pass when purchasing food, beverages, counter gifts or addition moorage.
Payment Terms
Purchases must be paid with Visa or Master card, cash and checks are not accepted.
Attire
Appropriate business or casual attire except in the Ward Room as defined under Dining.
Rules and Regulations
Guests are required to comply with all club rules and regulations, which include no use of cell phones inside the clubhouse, on the decks or the front porch area. Tipping is not allowed.
Dining
SYCs formal dining room, the Ward Room, serves lunch and dinner. Informal jacket and tie are traditional, but not required in the Ward Room. The Marine Room, located upstairs on the third floor, is casual and serves lunch, dinner and full service bar with hors doeuvres. Dining on the outside deck is available during the summer. A service charge is added to all food and beverage purchases, additional tipping is not allowed. Dining reservations are not accepted, dining is on a space available basis.

Guest Moorage
Moorage is available to members of clubs that provide reciprocal guest moorage. Reciprocal guests to SYC receive moorage free of charge for 48 hours. Additional moorage is available for up to 14 days in any calendar year at posted moorage rates. Moorage reservations are not accepted, availability is on a first come first serve basis. Guests must fly their clubs burgee at all times and comply with SYCs Moorage and Docks rules.
Guest moorage is located on the west side of Dock 2, the mainstations only uncovered dock. No dock master is available. Total length of guest moorage is 220', rafting is generally not permitted. Guest moorage does not include use of any regular permanent slips without first obtaining permission from the club office.
Moorage facilities include: power (110 VAC, 30 Amps), fresh water, restrooms with showers, ice, phones, and garbage disposal. Laundry and pump out station are not available. Proximity to fuel is about 1 mile. A small grocery store is available within walking distance.
